MARA nyingi baadhi ya watu huwahimiza watu wengine kutumia unga wa mahindi au nafaka zingine usiokobolewa bila ya kubainisha hasara ya unga wa aina hiyo.

Watu wengi (bila shaka hata wewe msomaji wa makala haya), hawako tayari kutumia unga usiokobolewa maarufu kama dona. Kuwalazimisha watu wa aina hiyo kutumia unga usikobolewa (unga wa dona) ni sawa na kuwaweka watu hao katika hatari ya kuwa na lishe duni.

UNGA WA MAHINDI

Unga wa mahindi, ulezi, uwele, mtama na kadhalika ni chanzo kikubwa kwa watu wengi barani Afrika cha virutubisho kama vile wanga, protini, madini na vitamini. Na kama utang’arishwa zaidi unatitwa “polished rice” au Waswahili huita mchele super. Mchele mzuri kwa afya ya binadamu ni ule brown rice japokuwa wengi hupendelea ule wa super.

FAIDA YA UNGA WA DONA

Unga wa dona ni unga usiokobolewa. Aina hii ya unga ina faida kadhaa, kama vile:
watu wengi kutokana na kuwa na ladha nzuri na rangi ya kuvutia.
Madini ya chuma na zinc yaliyomo kwa wingi katika nafaka mbalimbali yanaweza kutumika kwa kiwango kikubwa mwilini kama mtu atakula chakula kilichopikwa kutokana na unga uliokobolewa.
Hii ni kwa sababu nafaka zina kemikali inayoitwa “phytate” ambayo inauzuia mwili kunyonya madini hayo kutumika mwilini. Ukikoboa nafaka kama vile mahindi unapunguza kiasi kikubwa cha kemikali hiyo ya “phytate”.

FAIDA NA HASARA

Tumeona kuwa ukikoboa nafaka kama vile mahindi unapoteza baadhi ya virutubisho kama vitamini, madini na nyuzi nyuzi.
